If not only your tooth is inflamed but also its roots, a root tip resection can be necessary in order to save the tooth. This intervention needs a special know-how and a lot of experience and should therefore be performed by specialists. In such a case please come and see us at smileforever - your experts for oral surgery and tooth preservation.

Why is a root tip resection necessary?

Root tip resection is necessary if dental inflammations extended to the root tip. If you have severe pain such as purulence and abscess formation there might be the risk of a bone infection in such a case. In order to heal the inflammation and to preserve the tooth, a root tip resection is performed where the infected part of the root and the surrounding inflamed tissue is removed.

What is the process of a root tip resection?

A root tip resection is an oral surgical operation under local anesthesia. Before the operation starts, the state of the tooth is examined with the aid of x-rays. In most cases it is a tooth which is supplied with root canal fillings after its nerves have been removed. Unlike a root canal treatment, the root tip resection is not performed through the tooth crown but from the roots. Depending on the extent of the inflammation the root tip and the surrounding, infected tissue are removed. After a thorough disinfection the tooth is sealed with cement, plastic or other materials. In order to conceal possible discolorations smileforever offers you several options that reach from bleaching and veneers to dental crowns. Allow us to advice you in detail.

If you wish you can also "sleep through" the root tip resection. Let us advice you about our possibilities to perform the treatment with sedation or under general anesthesia.
